TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR
Problem
Cause
Remedy
Tines don’t turn when throttle
is depressed
Engine is not seated properly on the gear housing Refer to "How to Reseat the Flange" instructions
Debris blocking tines Remove tines and clean debris
Throttle cable disconnected Refer to "Attaching Throttle Cable" instructions
Engine fails to start
O/I switch is in “O” position Move switch to “I”
No fuel in tank Fill Tank
Fuel lter is clogged Replace fuel lter
Spark plug shorted, fouled, or broken Replace spark plug
Ignition inoperative Contact your local authorized dealer
Engine hard to start
Water in gasoline or stale fuel mixture Drain entire system and rell with fresh fuel
Engine under choked
Move choke lever to CLOSED position and crank two
or three times
Weak spark at spark plug Contact your local authorized dealer.
Engine is smoking
Oil is overlled
Refer to "Corrective Action for Overlled Oil"
instructions
Debris is blocking engine ports
Remove dust, dirt, and debris from all engine
openings
Engine runs rough or lacks power
Choke partially engaged Move choke to OPEN position
Dirty air lter Check and clean or replace air lter
Spark plug fouled, broken or incorrect gap setting
Clean or replace spark plug - set gap to .024-.028
in. (0.6-0.7 mm)
Weak or intermittent spark at spark plug Contact your local authorized dealer
Spark Arrestor Clogged Clean Spark Arrestor
Engine overheats Air ow obstructed Remove dust and dirt from between ns
Engine stalls under load
Air lter clogged Check and clean or replace air lter
Other Contact your local authorized service dealer
Engine does not stop when switched off Multiple causes Release the throttle, allow engine to idle, slide choke
to closed position. Contact your local authorized
