The Sentry Sample Sequencer 6 Controller is a sophisticated device designed for sample stream switching in industrial applications, operating in both Batch and Continuous modes. It significantly reduces the number of analyzers required while maintaining equivalent data accuracy, making it a cost-effective solution for sample conditioning automation.
Function Description:
The core function of the Sample Sequencer 6 is to electronically switch up to eight sample streams, one at a time, to a shared analyzer. It then provides signals to recorders and remote data acquisition devices (DCS, recorder, etc.). This modular design allows for flexible configurations, supporting up to eight IO boards across multiple enclosures.
In Continuous mode, the sequencer is used with analyzers that continuously produce an analytical result. It manages the flow of samples to the analyzer and handles alarms by closing the active sample valve and opening the next in sequence until the alarm clears or a timeout occurs.
In Batch mode, it's designed for analyzers that take a sample "bite" (or batch), produce an analytical result, and then provide a contact signal output, typically within 1-20 minutes. In this mode, an alarm initiates a timeout timer, and if an end-of-batch indication isn't received or the alarm doesn't clear before the timer expires, the sequencer moves to the next sample valve.
The device features analog inputs to read 4-20 mA signals from up to two different analyzers, converting these signals into engineering units for display and outputting them for track and hold analog outputs. Analyzer alarm inputs, typically indicating a loss of sample flow or system failure, trigger digital alarm outputs and sequence changes. Calibration hold inputs allow for analyzer calibration, pausing the sequencing process. End-of-batch inputs are crucial for batch analyzers, signaling the completion of a sample analysis.
Track and hold outputs provide independent 4-20 mA signals for each sample point, enabling data acquisition for local or remote indication. Digital outputs (16 sinking outputs per I/O board) provide channel number indication and/or replicated analyzer alarms for remote data. The valve outputs, supplying 12 or 24VDC, are designed to operate Sentry Manifold Sample Valves, with provisions for other manifold valves using additional hardware like interposing relays.
For communication, the Sample Sequencer 6 is capable of connecting to a network for communication with a PC or dedicated terminal screen via a webpage, and it supports Modbus communication protocol.
