Note
The backstop is not suitable for ambient temperatures under -25°C.
The motor can be 󹪝tted with a mechanical backstop. The backstop permits only the correct
direction of rotation during operation. The motor is marked by an arrow pointing in the
corresponding direction.
The backstop is 󹪝tted with centrifugally operated sprags. When the motor is running in the
speci󹪝ed direction, the inner ring and the cage with the sprags also rotate while the outer
ring remains stationary.
If the drive speed exceeds the speed listed in the table, the sprag rises. The backstop is
wear-free. The backstop is maintenance-free.

4.5 Brakes
4.5.1 Brake description
Motors can be optionally equipped with spring-operated disk brakes, which are electrically
released to reduce motor run-on times or to hold loads, for example.
The brake is electrically connected in the motor terminal box. The brakes are designed for
DC operation. The brake is either directly controlled using a DC voltage or an AC voltage
via a recti󹪝er. Depending on the brake version and the line supply voltage, use a half-wave
recti󹪝er, a bridge recti󹪝er or a function recti󹪝er.
Chapter 6.6.2 explains how the brake is electrically connected. In addition, the technical data
for the brake and recti󹪝er as well as the circuit diagrams provided with the motor.
NOTICE
Operating the brake
When operating the brake, comply with the permissible ON duration and switching frequency
as well as the permissible operating speeds and friction energy values.
