UPPER STEERING
SYSTEM ASSEMBLY
Steering Gear Installation
Refer to Figure 5.
1. Insert the steering gear assembly bushing (F) into the
frame.
2. Insert the steering gear assembly (L) into the frame
and rotate the assembly into place.
3. Insert the steering gear assembly shaft into the bush-
ing (F).
4. Secure the assembly (L) using the original
capscrews (I).
5. Reattach the drag link (J).
6. Reinstall the steering shaft (C, see next procedure).
7. Re-index the steering gear (see STEERING GEAR
ADJUSTMENT, Section 4)
Steering Shaft Installation
1. Lubricate the shaft (C, Figure 5) and bearing contact
points with lithium grease.
2. Elevate the front of the tractor (see ELEVATING
FRONT END FOR SAFE SERVICE, Section 6).
3. Insert the shaft (C, Figure 5), washer (E), bushing
(F), and mounting plate (G) assembly through the
frame.
4. Secure the mounting plate (G, Figure 5) to the frame
using two carriage bolts (P) and flange nuts (O). Do
not tighten the hardware at this time.
5. Install the bulkhead (F, Figure 6) and secure using
four capscrews.
6. Install the dashboard (D, Figure 6) routing steering
shaft through the upper dash.
7. Install the two rear dashboard capscrews (I, Figure 6)
only.
8. Install the upper washer (E, Figure 5), bushing (F),
and cotter pin (D).
