  If your Sony Stereo Receiver displays 'PROTECT', it means irregular current is being output from the speakers. Turn off the power, inspect the speaker connections, and then power it on again. If the issue persists, and the speaker impedance is set to 8 ohms, try setting it to 4 ohms. If it still shows 'PROTECT', turn off the receiver and allow it to cool down for about 10 minutes before turning it back on.

  If you're not getting sound from one of the front speakers on your Sony Stereo Receiver, connect a pair of headphones to the PHONES jack to see if sound is output. If only one channel is output through the headphones, the component may not be correctly connected to the receiver. If both channels output through the headphones, the front speaker may not be correctly connected to the receiver. Check the connection of the front speaker that is not outputting any sound.
