7.11.8.2 Long-Shaft
The power-transmission between the engine and the front-drive is realized with
a long-shaft made of carbon-fiber-composites (CFC). It runs from the front-end
of the fuselage through a tunnel in the center-console to the output-gear of the
engine. The engine-shaft-flange is connected to the long-shaft with a spline-
shaft-connector, which allows for axial motion of the long-shaft. A flexible-disk
on each side of the long-shaft compensates angle-errors and angular motion. In
case of a failure of the long-shaft, it is contained in a protective tunnel made of
aramid-fiber-composites. This contains the shaft and sharp fragments in case of
shaft-rupture. The following illustration shows the concept of the load-
transmission.
