Process Monitoring Operator Manual T6800 Rev B
SYSTEM 1 endo Liquid Chemical Sterilant Processing System
10-1
PROCESS MONITORING
10
The SYSTEM 1 endo Processor provides the operator numerous methods of
quality assurance monitoring. The Processor allows for immediate physical
and electronic monitoring of the liquid chemical sterilization process. Physical
monitoring is controlled by the operator, while real-time cycle monitoring is
performed by the microcomputer-controlled processor.
Physical monitoring of the liquid chemical sterilization process is accomplished
through operator interaction and observation. The ability to physically monitor
this process enables the operator to utilize sensory perception to immediately
ascertain whether or not processing is progressing. Sight, smell, touch, and
hearing are all important factors in monitoring the process.
The ability of the Processor to monitor conditions of the cycle ensures that liquid
chemical sterilization conditions are achieved and maintained during each liquid
chemical sterilization cycle. This standardization ensures that all devices are
processed in exactly the same manner. Documentation that liquid chemical
sterilization conditions have been achieved and maintained is provided in the
cycle monitoring section of the printout from the SYSTEM 1 endo Processor.
The integrity of the processor is validated via an operator-initiated DIAGNOSTIC
cycle. The purpose of a DIAGNOSTIC cycle is to ensure that all electro/
mechanical systems and the MaxLife water filter are functioning correctly. Once
a DIAGNOSTIC cycle has been successfully completed, the user is assured
that the Processor will operate as designed for liquid chemical sterilization.
If a DIAGNOSTIC cycle fails, the operator will be prohibited from initiating a
liquid chemical sterilization cycle until the problem has been corrected and a
successful DIAGNOSTIC cycle has been completed. STERIS recommends
running a DIAGNOSTIC cycle once every 24 hours (Section 8).
