4.3. CONNECTING TO AN EXTERNAL DEVICE (ECG AND/OR
METABOLIC MONITOR)
The medical version of the machine (HC800) can be connected to an external device (ECG and/or
metabolic monitor) in order to perform exertion tests. The external device must provide an analogue
output which is interfaced via an external unit equipped with an 8 bit AD converter to one of the
2 RS 485 serial ports on the machine.
WARNING: the other RS 485 port must remain not connected.
The connection diagram is shown in the figure below:

In this operating mode, which is enabled by pressing the “Race” key, the machine runs a constant-
power training program at a power level established by the analog signal from the external device.
The relation between the analog signal received from the external device and the resulting machine
power level is given by:
1 Volt = 100 Watt
