Section1:GeneralDescriptionandSystemOverview
1.1SafetyPrecautions
All operators and mechanics should refer to the information located in the Safety section, and to the
Warnings, Cautions, and Notes throughout this manual.
1.2PurposeofEquipment
The TUG Belt Loader Model 660-28 is designed to load and unload baggage, light freight, and mail into
and out of the lower hold of aircraft. The conveyor may also be used to transfer freight from trucks or
between any two points at the same or differing elevations.
1.3GeneralDescription
The Mobile Belt Loader Model 660 includes the following major components/primary systems:
The power package (engine and transmission),
The brakes,
The conveyor portion of this vehicle,
The operators compartment and controls, and
The hydraulic.
1.3.1PowerPackage
The unit is equipped with a Ford MSG-425 2.5L Gasoline Engine coupled with either the General Motor
(GM) 4L70 or 4LHD transmission. The engine is certified by the manufacturer to meet the emissions
standards required by USA law applicable as of the date of manufacture.
1.3.1.1Engine
The gasoline engine is a heavy duty, industrial type with a short stroke and exhaust valve rotators.
1.3.1.2Transmission
The belt loader may be equipped with one of two (2) transmissions:
GM 4L70 automatic with abuse protection valve body and torque converter
GM 4HLD automatic with abuse protection valve body and torque converter
1.3.2CoolingSystem
The Model 660’s cooling system consists of the engine cooling system, the transmission cooling system
and hydraulic cooling system.
1.3.2.1EngineCoolingSystem
The Ford 2.5L engine cooling system consists of a radiator low coolant level sensor, a water pump, and an
exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler.

Every operator and mechanic involved with this equipment must read and abide by
this safety section.
