Section 1 Operation Manual
1.3.12.4UltrasonicSensorsandPods
The sensors send out a high frequency sound signal and detect its return in order to determine the
distance to an object in front of the conveyor. This signal is interpreted by the Collision Avoidance Module
and is used to supply a distance value to the TCM in order to control the vehicle’s movement.
The smart sense system utilizes two ultrasonic sensors to detect objects (aircraft) in front of the conveyor.
One sensor is installed in a pod on the left hand side of the conveyor and the other is installed in a pod on
the right side of the conveyor. The left hand sensor shares a pod with the operator indicator light. The right
hand sensor is installed in a pod by itself.
