MoCA Multimedia over Coax Alliance
A trade group promoting a standard that uses coaxial
cables to connect consumer electronics and home
networking devices in homes.
MRS Multi-Room Streaming
A TiVo feature that allows two TiVo boxes to stream
content to each other through a local network. Unlike
Multi-Room Viewing, it does not require the video to
be copied from one box to the other, which allows
“Copy Once” content to be streamed from one box to
the next and makes TiVo Mini eligible to be a
“receiving” box (unlike MRV).
MRV Multi-Room Viewing
A Tivo feature that allows a video stream to be
transferred from one TiVo box to another in whole or
in part. Unlike Multi-Room Streaming, the show is
copied to the destination, meaning that the
destination must have a recordable hard drive (which
TiVo Mini does not).
OTT Over-The-Top Content
The broadband delivery of video and audio without
the Internet Service Provider being involved in the
control or distribution of the content itself.
PGD Program Guide Data
Electronically transmitted information about the
schedule of upcoming television programs.
QAM Quadrature Amplitude Modulation
A modulation scheme that is both analog and digital.
It conveys two analog message signals, or two digital
bit streams, by changing (modulating) the amplitudes
of two carrier waves, using the amplitude-shift
keying (ASK) digital modulation scheme or amplitude
modulation (AM) analog modulation scheme.
STB Set-Top Box
An information appliance device that usually contains
a tuner and connects to a television set and an
external source of signal, turning the source signal
into content in a form that can then be displayed on a
television screen or other display device.
TSN TiVo Service Number
A 15-digit hexadecimal string that uniquely identifies
a TiVo product.
VOD Video On Demand
An interactive TV system that allows the viewer to
select content and view it at a time of his or her own
choosing.
