ServicingtheCutting
Blades
Maintainsharpbladesthroughoutthecuttingseason,
becausesharpbladescutcleanlywithouttearingor
shreddingthegrassblades.T earingandshredding
turnsgrassbrownattheedges,whichslowsgrowth,
andincreasesthechanceofdisease.
Checkthecutterbladesdailyforsharpness,and
foranywearordamage.Filedownanynicksand
sharpenthebladesasnecessary.Ifabladeis
damagedorworn,replaceitimmediatelywitha
genuineTororeplacementblade.Forconvenient
sharpeningandreplacement,youmaywanttokeep
extrabladesonhand.
WARNING
Awornordamagedbladecanbreak,anda
pieceofthebladecouldbethrownintothe
operator'sorbystander'sarea,resultingin
seriouspersonalinjuryordeath.
•Inspectthebladeperiodicallyforwearor
damage.
•Replaceawornordamagedblade.
BeforeInspectingorServicingthe
Blades
Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,disengagethe
blade-controlswitch,movethemotion-controllevers
outwardtothePARKposition,shutofftheengine,and
removethekey.
InspectingtheBlades
ServiceInterval:Beforeeachuseordaily—Check
thecuttingblades.
1.Inspectthecuttingedges(Figure51).
Note:Iftheedgesarenotsharporhave
nicks,removeandsharpentheblades;referto
SharpeningtheBlades(page47).
2.Inspecttheblades,especiallythecurvedarea
(Figure51).
Note:Ifyounoticeanydamage,wear,oraslot
forminginthisarea(items3and4inFigure51),
immediatelyinstallanewblade.

adequatehandprotection,slowlyrotatethe
bladetobemeasureintoapositionthatallows
effectivemeasurementofthedistancebetween
thecuttingedgeandthelevelsurfacethe
machineison(Figure52).
