AdjustingtheParkingBrake
ServiceInterval:Aftertherst100hours
Every500hoursthereafter
Checktomakesurebrakeisadjustedproperly.Thisprocedure
mustbefollowedaftertherst100hoursorwhenabrake
componenthasbeenremovedorreplaced.
1.Drivethemachineontoalevelsurface.
2.Disengagethebladecontrolswitch(PTO),movethe
motioncontrolleverstotheneutrallockedposition
andsettheparkingbrake.
3.Stoptheengine,waitforallmovingpartstostop,and
removethekey.
4.Raisethebackofthemachineupandsupportthe
machinewithjackstands.
DANGER
Mechanicalorhydraulicjacksmayfailto
supportthemachineandcauseaserious
injury.
Usejackstandwhensupportingthe
machine.
Donotusehydraulicjacks.
5.Removethereartiresfromthemachine.
6.Removeanydebrisfromthebrakearea.
7.Rotatethedrivewheelreleasehandle
tothereleasedposition;referto
UsingtheDriveWheelReleaseValves(page27).
8.Measuretheoveralllengthofthecompression
spring.Thecorrectlengthshouldbebetween
3.8and4.0cm(1-1/2and1-9/16inches).Ifthespring
lengthiswithinthisrange,noadjustmentisneeded.If
itisnot,proceedtostep9.
9.Holdthethreadedrodendwithatoolandadjust
thelocknutuntilthespringlengthisbetween
3.8and4.0cm(1-1/2and1-9/16inches)(Figure71).
Note:Donotallowthecabletoturnwhenthenuts
arebeingloosened.

caliperthenrepeattheadjustment(drivereleasevalves
mustbeinthereleasedpositiononthehydros).
13.Afteradjustingthebrakesonbothsidesofthemower,
cyclethebrakehandleaminimumofsixtimestoallow
thecabletoseatintothesheathandmountingtabs.
14.Checkthespringlength;engagetheparkbrakeand
repeatsteps8through12ifthelengthisnotinthe
correctrange.
15.Rotatethedrivewheelreleasehandle
totheoperatingposition;referto
UsingtheDriveWheelReleaseValves(page27).
16.Installthereartiresandtorquelugnutsbetween122
and129N-m(90and95ft-lb).
17.Removethejackstands.
