Mowing
Beforemowinggreens,ndaclearareaandpractice
startingandstoppingthemachine,raisingand
loweringthecuttingunits,turning,etc.
Inspectthegreenfordebris,removetheagfrom
thecup,anddeterminethebestdirectiontomow.
Basethedirectiontomowonthepreviousmowing
direction.Alwaysmowinanalternatepatternfrom
thepreviousmowingsothatthegrassbladeswillbe
lessapttolaydownandthereforebedifculttotrap
betweenthereelbladesandthebedknife.
1.Approachthegreenwiththefunctional-control
leverintheMOWpositionandthethrottleatfull
speed.
2.Startononeedgeofthegreensothatyoucan
usetheribbonprocedureofcutting.
Note:Thisholdscompactiontoaminimumand
leavesaneat,attractivepatternonthegreens.
3.Actuatetheraise/lowermowleverasthefront
edgesofthegrassbasketscrosstheouteredge
ofthegreen.
Note:Thisproceduredropsthecuttingunitsto
theturfandstartsthereels.
Important:TheNo.1cuttingunitreelis
delayed;therefore,youshouldpractice
togaintherequiredtimingnecessaryto
minimizethecleanupmowingoperation.
4.Overlapaminimalamountwiththepreviouscut
onreturnpasses.
Note:T oassistinmaintainingastraightline
acrossthegreenandkeepthemachineanequal
distanceawayfromtheedgeofthepreviouscut,
establishanimaginarysightlineapproximately
1.8to3m(6to10ft)aheadofthemachine
totheedgeoftheuncutportionofthegreen
(Figure36).Somenditusefultoincludethe
outeredgeofthesteeringwheelaspartofthe
sightline;i.e.keepthesteeringwheeledge
alignedwithapointthatisalwayskeptthesame
distanceawayfromthefrontofthemachine.
5.Asthefrontedgesofthebasketscrosstheedge
ofthegreen,movetheraise/lowermowlever
rearwardandholdituntilallthecuttingunits
haverisen.Thiswillstopthereelsandliftthe
cuttingunits.
Note:Itisimportanttotimethisstepcorrectly
sothatyoudonotcutintothefringeareayetcut
asmuchofthegreenaspossibletominimize
theamountofgrasslefttomowaroundtheouter
periphery.
6.Tocutdownonoperatingtimeandeaselineup
forthenextpass,momentarilyturnthemachine
intheoppositedirection,thenturnitinthe
directionoftheuncutportion;i.e.,ifintendingto
turnright,rstswingslightlyleft,thenright.
Note:Thisassistsingettingthemachinemore
quicklyalignedforthenextpass.Trytomakeas
shortofaturnaspossibleexceptduringwarmer
weatherwhenawiderarcwillminimizetheturf
bruising.
