PreparingtheMachine
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface;engagethe
parkingbrake;shutofftheengine;removethe
key;andwaitforallmovementtostopbefore
leavingthemachine.
2.Thoroughlycleanthemachine,deck,andthe
engine,payingspecialattentiontotheseareas:
•Radiatorandradiatorscreen
•Underneaththedeck
•Underthedeckbeltcovers
•PTOshaftassembly
•Allgreasettingsandpivotpoints
•Removethecontrolpanelandcleanout
insideofthecontrolbox
•Beneaththeseatplateandtopofthe
transmission
3.Checkandadjusttheairpressureinthetires;
refertoCheckingtheAirPressureintheTires
(page26).
4.Remove,sharpen,balance,andinstallthe
mowerblades;refertotheOperator’sManual
foryourmowerdeck.
5.Checkforloosefastenersandtightenthemas
necessary.
6.Lubricateallgreasettingsandapplyoiltopivot
pointsandthetransmissionbypass-valvepins.
Wipecleananyexcesslubricant.
7.Lightlysandandusetouch-uppaintonpainted
areasthatarescratched,chipped,orrusted.
Repairanydentsinthemetalbody.
PreparingtheEngine
1.Changetheengineoilandoillter;referto
ChangingtheEngineOilandFilter(page44).
2.Starttheengineandrunitatidlespeedfor2
minutes.
3.Shutofftheengine.
4.Drainthefuelfromthefueltank,fuellines,
pump,lter,andseparator.
5.Flushthefueltankwithcleandieselfueland
connectallfuellines.
6.Servicetheair-cleanerassembly;referto
ServicingtheAirCleaner(page42).
7.Sealtheair-cleanerinletandtheexhaustoutlet
withweatherproofmaskingtape.
8.Secureallfuel-systemttings.
9.Checktheanti-freezeprotectionlevelofthe
coolingsystemandadjusttheconcentrationof
thecoolantasneededforexpectedminimum
temperatureinyourarea.
10.Checkthattheoil-llercapandfuel-tankcapare
installedsecurely.
StoringtheBattery
•Servicethebatteryandcablesasfollows:
1.Disconnectthenegativeterminalrstand
thepositivelast.
2.Cleanthebattery,terminals,andpostswith
awirebrushandbaking-sodasolution.
3.Coatthecableterminalsandbatteryposts
withGrafo112Xskin-overgrease(T oroPart
No.505-47)topreventcorrosion.
4.Ifyouplanttostorethemachinemorethan
30days,removethebatteryandchargeit
fully.
Note:Slowlychargethebatteryfor24hours
every60daystopreventleadsulfationofthe
battery.
Note:Chargethebatteryinanopen,
well-ventilatedarea,awayfromsparks
andames.Unplugthechargerbefore
connectingordisconnectingthebattery.
Wearprotectiveclothinganduseinsulated
tools.
•Storethebatteryontheshelfonthemachine.
•Leavethecablesdisconnectedifyoustorethe
batteryinthemachine.
•Storethebatteryinacoolatmospheretoavoid
quickdeteriorationofthechargeinthebattery.
•Topreventthebatteryfromfreezing,fullycharge
it.Theelectrolytespecicgravityofafullycharged
batteryisbetween1.265to1.299.
