Important:Refertothetractionunitoperator's
manualforoperatinginstructions.
Understandingthe
PrinciplesofOperation
The3-pointhitchlinkageofthetractionunitliftsthe
machinefortransportandlowersitforoperation.
Powerfromthetractionunitpowertake-off(PTO)is
transmittedthroughdriveshafts,agearbox,anddrive
beltstoanumberofcrankshafts,whichdrivethetine
holdingarmsintotheturfsurface.
AsthetractionunittravelsforwardwiththePTO
engagedandthemachinelowered,aseriesofholes
arecreatedintheturf.
Thepenetrationdepthofthetinesisdeterminedby
theheightofthedepthcontrol.
Thedistancebetweentheaerationholesis
determinedbythegearratio(orhydrostatictraction
pedalposition)ofthetractionunitandthenumberof
tinesineachtinehead.
Note:Changingtheenginespeeddoesnotchange
holespacing.
PracticingtheOperating
Procedures
Important:WhenconnectingthePTO,ensure
thatthemachineisnotliftedhigherthanis
necessary.Liftingthemachinetoohighcauses
thePTOdriveshaftknucklestobreak(Figure24).
ThePTOcanoperateuptoanangleof25°,but
canneverexceeda35°anglewhenthemachine
isatitshighestposition,orsevereshaftdamage
mayoccur.
