All high
tension
cables
fitted to
the ignition
system
are made
from
carbon
impregnated
nylon
or cotton
cords
encasecl
rn
rubber
or
neopr-ne
to form
a high
resistive conductor.
Re-
placement
cables
must always
be of
the same
tyPe.
Keep the
moulded
cover of
the distributor
clean
by
wiPing
iL inside and
outside
with a soft
cloth.
Check that
the carbon
brush on
the
inside moves
freely.
The contacts
must
be kePt
free from
oil
or dust, and a
gap
maintained at
0'014'
to 0 016"'

ignition setting
given on

at rest.
When
the engine
is runnlng
the lgnltlon

varying conditions.
Maximum
performance
of
an in<liridual
engine
may require
slight
modi-
hcation
of
the nominal
setling
to suit particular
grades

To set
the ignition
timing,
rotate
the cmnkshaft
until
the
hole
in
the cmnkshaft
pulley
flange
is aligned
with the
Pointer
on the
timing
corer.
With the
distributor

at
0.015'
(0
4 mm.).

the
vernier
adjustment
set
in the
centre
of its scale

slacken the
distributoiclamp
bolt
and
adjust the

distribulor
so that
the
conlact
breaker
points are
just
commencing

miles.

have the
unit
serviced
at a Triumph

Lucas Service
DePot.
If
