Overview

The Vertiv UL891 Switchboard is a highly customizable and robust power distribution solution designed for various applications, including power distribution units (PDUs) and remote power panels (RPPs). Engineered with influence from IEC 60349-1 technology, it is fully tested and certified to comply with UL891 standards, ensuring high performance, reliability, and operator safety.

Function Description:

The UL891 Switchboard serves as a central component for electrical power distribution, managing and directing power flow within a facility. It integrates various protective and control devices to ensure safe and efficient operation. Its modular design allows for flexible configurations to meet specific site requirements and power capacities. The switchboard facilitates connections for incoming power, outgoing loads, and various control and monitoring systems. It is designed to break electrical circuits if tripped, provide protection against overcurrent and short circuits, and manage voltage distribution across phases.

Usage Features:

  • Customization and Flexibility: Fully customized design to meet specific needs, with a modular architecture that allows for a wide range of components from various manufacturers.
  • Compact Design: One of the most compact switchboard designs in the North American market, offering a standard shallow depth of 30.2 inches, maximizing power capacity in a smaller footprint.
  • Enhanced Safety: Type tested arc prevention busbar systems and internal segregation (up to Form 4 type 7) reduce operator risk by limiting internal arc fault propagation and preserving uptime during maintenance.
  • Enclosure Options: Equipped with Type 1 gasket and Type 3R enclosures, suitable for various environmental conditions.
  • Breaker Selection: Large selection of Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB) and Air Circuit Breakers (ACB) from leading manufacturers.
  • Integrated Controls: Integration of TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors), PQMs (Power Quality Monitors), Protective Relays, and Controls based on site-specific requirements.
  • Customer Connections: Provides typical field termination arrangements for different ACB and MCCB amperages, with standard NEMA hole patterns for lug pads.
  • Ground Layout: A continuous ground system runs the entire length of the switchboard, with periodic taps for field terminations.
  • Busway Connections: Supports various manufacturer's busway flanges for power entry or exit, utilizing internal risers, transition plates, and bus links.
  • Over Head Lifting Device (OHLD): An optional accessory used to lift breakers from the floor or drawn-out cradles. It features an internal winch with wire rope and travels across rails mounted on top of the switchboard.

Maintenance Features:

  • Maintenance Schedule: Highly recommended to establish a regular maintenance schedule based on equipment usage.
  • De-energization Protocols: Emphasizes turning off all power sources and de-energizing the equipment before any maintenance, with components locked out and tagged according to ANSI Standard Z244.1.
  • Safety Gear: Requires wearing PPEs (Personal Protective Equipment) during maintenance.
  • Qualified Personnel: Only Vertiv qualified personnel should work on the switchboard.
  • Cleaning: Recommends cleaning the equipment with a clean cloth or compressed dry air, using OSHA-approved, non-flammable solvents with a threshold limit of 300 PPM or higher.
  • Visual Inspections:
    • Check proper operation of all indicators, meters, and instruments.
    • Verify proper operation of heaters and thermostats (if available).
    • Look for signs of wear and tear on control wiring.
  • Physical Inspections:
    • Ensure all bolted covers are properly secured.
    • Check all bolt connections for correct fitment; investigate discoloration or corrosion as it may indicate an overheated connection.
    • Confirm all cables are tightly secured and supported.
    • Inspect for signs of wear and tear on control wiring, replacing if uncertain.
    • If an overhead lifting device is present, ensure the gear mechanism and rope are intact and performing properly.
  • Pre-Energization Tests: Before energization, perform continuity checks of the main power circuit, insulation resistance tests, and 2.2 kV Hipot tests with all breakers installed and closed, and control fuses/circuit breakers removed or open.
  • Storage Guidelines: If installation is delayed, store the switchboard in a location with less than 50% humidity and a stable temperature between 32-104°F (0-40°C). Space heaters should be temporarily disconnected and powered externally to reduce condensation. Re-cover sections with packaging material for extended storage.
