Tip: If you are operating the system at, or close to, its maximum system operating
pressure limit and the fitting is a hex, use the 1/2-inch open-end wrench to tighten the
compression fitting an additional 1/8- to 1/6-turn.
6. Tighten the cap nut onto the compression fitting.
Tip: When reinstalling the fitting:
Examine the PEEK ferrule for damage and replace it if necessary. For instructions on
replacing the PEEK ferrule, see Replacing the ferrule on the column-inlet fitting.
Always loosen the locking cap nut before reconnecting the fitting.
2.3.2
Installing the APH assembly
The APH assembly is installed in the right-hand control port of the column compartment, directing
the flow from right to left through the column compartment so that the column-outlet tubing exits
toward the detector inlet. An alternative configuration, which supports the extended CH-A
configuration, or any specialized column arrangement that requires the APH assembly to be
installed in the compartment's left-hand control port, redirects the flow from left to right through
the column compartment so that the column-outlet tubing exits from the right-hand side of the
system stack toward the mass spectrometer inlet.
Tip: If you use active preheating when running a method originally developed for use with
passive preheating, you may need to adjust the column temperature.

materials, wear chemical-resistant, powder-free gloves when performing this procedure.
