WARNING - Quick release clamping force must be sufcient
to properly seat and secure the wheel to the bicycle frame
drop outs. If, after performing the installation instructions
that follow, the quick release lever is very difcult to close
or excessive friction is felt when closing the lever, check the
cam bushing and lever for damage. Any damage can result in
insufcient quick release clamping force. Insufcient clamping
force can cause the wheel to not seat or secure properly and
make the wheel unsafe to ride. If you are unsure as to whether
your quick release axle is performing correctly, please contact
your Whyte retailer for advice and guidance. A replacement
quick release lever may be required. Any wheel that is not
properly seated or secured can disengage from the bicycle,
which can lead to a crash and serious injury and/or death to
the rider.
Quick Release System Guidance
- Do not use any tools to tighten the quick release nut. Hand
tighten only.
- Do not over-tighten the quick release lever or adjuster nut.
Over-tightening the quick release lever can damage the quick
release, fork dropout, and/or frame.
WARNING!
The photograph above shows the quick release secured
correctly in the closed position. The quick release lever must
not contact any component when in the closed position.
Contact may result in insufcient clamping force and may
cause the wheel to disengage from the frame, which can lead
to a crash and serious injury and/or death to the rider. After
closing the quick release lever do not reposition or rotate the
lever. Repositioning or rotating the quick release lever while
in the closed position can cause the axle to loosen which can
compromise the security of the axle and can lead to a crash and
serious injury and/or death to the rider.
Wheel Checks
Before every ride, ensure the following checks are completed:
- Check that the wheel is properly seated and the axle is
secure.
- Check rims and spokes for damage.
- Check that hubs spin freely without play.
- Check that wheels are centred.
