APPENDIX C. (cont)
The following table indicates categorisation of fuels according to condition.
The table below indicates fuel coefficients for the ME2100 meter for a range of fuel group types. These provide
effective averages for fuels classified under each indicated fuel group type, from A to M. Some fuels have not
been classified under any of these groups. The list provided in ME2000 Manager software indicates the fuel
group for each fuel unless the fuel is not associated with a group in which case no group is indicated.
Fuel (leaf) condition classification guide.
Condition Description
FRESH Picked live from the plant, also referred to as live fuel.
GREEN Cut from the tree and allowed to dry for up to one month with little
or no rain. Typically fresh logging slash.
BROWN Shiny nut brown, less than three months since removal from the
plant and not yet having experienced heavy rains. Examples are
recently fallen leaves or leaves in elevated slash.
GREY Pale brown or fawn as a result of nutrient leaching but the leaves
are still intact. Commonly appearing as surface litter for non-conifer
or upper duff layer for conifer.
FREGMENTED Advanced state of decay. Rotting, fragmenting matter for non-conifer.
Typically dark coloured, fragmenting matter in the lower duff layer
for conifer.
