Do you have a question about the Xylem Sensus Cordonel DN 40 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Sensus Cordonel is a static bulk water meter designed for industrial and commercial applications, utilizing ultrasonic technology to measure flow. It employs three ultrasonic paths, arranged in pairs, which alternately send and receive signals with and against the direction of water flow. By measuring the transit time difference of these signals, the meter calculates flow velocity and subsequently the flow volume, based on the constant cross-section of the measuring tube.

Function Description:

The Cordonel meter is intended for measuring potable water, clean process water, and water in field irrigation systems, all up to 50 °C. It can also be used for controlling industrial processes via its pulse output. The meter is equipped with an LC display that shows various values and symbols across two lines, including volume, flow rate, pressure, temperature, and alarm flags. It features integrated data loggers that can be parameterized and read out via radio, recording data periodically or at defined key dates. The meter also includes an NFC interface for transmitting the last meter reading in case of display or radio communication failure. A real-time clock (RTC) provides time and calendar functions, defaulting to UTC.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The meter can be installed in horizontal and vertical pipes, with the LCD positioned for easy reading. It does not require an inlet and outlet section (UOD0) or even behind 90° pipe bends, simplifying installation. It is crucial to install the meter without mechanical stress and ensure the pipe pressure does not exceed the rating plate specification. For outdoor installations, shading is recommended to preserve battery life. The meter automatically determines its main direction of flow after commissioning, indicated by flashing arrows until a permanent direction is established.
  • Display: The LC display provides a one-minute sequence of values, including volume, flow rate, temperature, and pressure (optional). It also shows alarm flags and corresponding alarm codes for issues like low battery, empty pipe, negative flow, leakage, pipe burst, and temperature/pressure deviations.
  • Testing Mode: For calibration purposes, the meter can be set to a testing mode, which increases display resolution by 1000 times for optimal testing time. This mode can be activated/deactivated by radio command and automatically terminates after 72 hours.
  • Data Logging: Two integrated data loggers store various parameters, including alarm status, volume (net and absolute reverse/positive), flow rates (maximum, peak, average, minimum), pressure (minimum, maximum, last measured), and temperature (minimum, maximum, last measured). Recording intervals are programmable from 1 minute to 1440 minutes (1 day).
  • Radio Communication: The Cordonel features a radio interface operating at 433 MHz or 868 MHz. It supports SensusRF (uni-directional and bi-directional) and wM-Bus (OMS) protocols. SensusRF sends short data telegrams (BUP) every 15 seconds and listens for commands (LAT) to send more detailed information (SEMI) or for configuration. wM-Bus transmits data according to EN13757-4:2013, supporting T-mode and C-mode with a standard transmission interval of 1 hour (changeable from 15 to 240 minutes). Radio data is secured with a 128-bit key.
  • NFC Interface: This allows for reading the last meter data (meter number, last saved reading, volume unit, time of last save) even if the display or radio communication fails. An NFC-enabled mobile phone with the Sensus NFC ST 25 app can be used for this purpose.
  • Temperature Measurement: The meter directly measures water temperature using ultrasonic signals, displayed on line 2 of the LCD and transmittable via SensusRF.
  • Optional Pulse Output: A slot is available for a pulse adapter, which must be installed carefully after removing a dummy cover. The cable from the pulse module should be routed downwards from the meter.

Maintenance Features:

  • Maintenance-Free Operation: Under normal operating conditions, the meter is maintenance-free.
  • Cleaning: The meter can be cleaned if necessary, but harsh chemicals, high-pressure cleaners, or sharp-edged tools should be avoided.
  • Transportation and Storage: Meters should be transported and stored dry, frost-free, and under hygienically harmless conditions, preferably in their original individual packaging to prevent damage and soiling. Recommended temperatures for transportation and storage are -10 °C to 40 °C (normal) or -40 °C to 60 °C (for one week).
  • Disposal: The Cordonel meter contains lithium batteries and must not be disposed of with household waste.
