Starting and warming up a
cold engine
To start the engine
1. Place the vehicle on the center-
stand.
2. Turn the main switch on.
3. Confirm the indicator and warning
light(s) come on for a few sec-
onds, and then go off. (See page
4-2.)
TIP
Do not start the engine if the engine
trouble warning light remains on.
NOTICE

Do not continue to operate the vehi-
cle if a warning light remains on.
Have a Yamaha dealer check the ve-
hicle.
4. Shift the transmission into the
neutral position.
WARNING
EWA14201
Before starting the engine, make
sure the transmission is in neutral
and that the vehicle is placed on the
centerstand.
5. While applying the front or rear
brake, push the start switch.
6. Release the start switch when the
engine starts, or after 5 seconds.
Wait 10 seconds before pressing
the switch again to allow battery
voltage to restore.
TIP
If the engine fails to start, try again with
the throttle grip open 1/4 turn (10 mm).
NOTICE

For maximum engine life, never ac-
celerate hard when the engine is
cold!
