3 Installation

Precautions

NOTE:

Please check next point for setting up

your motorcycle.

3-1 Checking the Valve

Seats

The following procedure applies to all

valves and valve seats.

1. Eliminate :

• lcarbon deposits (from the valve face

and valve seat)

2. Check :

• lvalve seat

Pitting/wear ➔ replace cylinder

head.

3. Measure :

•l

Measure the width of the valve seat (a)

Non-compliance with specification ➔

replace cylinder head.

Valve seat width

0,9 – 1,1 mm

(0.0354 - 0.0433 in)

<Limit>: 1.6 mm (0.06 in)

a. Apply mechanic's blue (Dykem) (b)

on the valve face.

b. Install the valve in the cylinder head.

c. Push the valve through the valve

guide and on the valve seat, to make

a clear impression.

d. Measure the width of the valve seat.

NOTE:

Where the valve seat and valve face

were in contact with one another, the

blue deposit will have been removed.
