environment.MLDv1/v2issupported.
Itisimpossibletouseamulticastaddressasasourceaddressinapacket,soaswitch
cannotlearnthemulticastaddress.Whenreceivingamulticastmessage,aswitch
broadcaststhemessageonallportsinthesameVLAN.Ifnomeasureistaken,unwanted
multicastmessagesmaybespreadtoeachnodeofthenetwork,causingagreatwaste
ofnetworkbandwidthresource.
MulticastListenerDiscovery(MLD)snoopingmonitorsMLDprotocolcommunication
betweenahostandarouter.Inthisway,amulticastmessageissenttotheportsinthe
multicastforwardingtableinsteadofallports.Thislimitsmulticastmessagespreadon
LANswitches,reducesnetworkbandwidthwaste,andenhancesswitchusage.
