Standard Commissioning Process 27
Protection relays
ACS580MV with integrated transformer
The protection relays in the feeding switchgear for the converter’s transformer must be
commissioned and tested as per the manufacturer’s documentation.
The settings for the protection relay are defined by the protection or system engineer. The
commissioning engineer should only verify these values.
Relay test protocols must be available on site before the drive is energized.
A protection curve can be programmed into the relay. The protection curve defines how
long a current of a certain magnitude is allowed to flow until the relay opens the MCB.
There are three types of protection modes:
Instantaneous
Short delay
Time over current protection
