~ Guide for Leakage Detection
in the Home
Standard procedures suggested for com-
pleting a home installation/inspection.
Take the proper equipment
• Leakage detection meter
(CLI-1450 or CLI-1750)
• LST-1700 (for use with the
CLI-1750 only)
• Leakage detection antenna
(Hand-Held Dipole, HD-1)
• RF Input Line (test jumper)
Conduct all installation procedures
before checking for egress and ingress.
Check for Egress Leakage
1. Always check and repair egress
leakage sources before detecting
ingress sources. If you detect and
repair your egress sources first
you will also be repairing your
ingress sources.
2. Attach the HD-1 antenna to your
leakage meter using supplied
coax cable.
3. Attach and set-up your LST-1700,
if using the CLI-1750 meter.
4. Turn meter “ON”; Go to the leak-
age display screen by pressing the
“SHIFT” key followed by the leak-
age key.
5. Press the Left Soft key, check your
display screen for the “Find and
Fix” Mode.
6. Check you meter configuration
screen prior to checking for leak-
age, to be sure that your configu-
ration functions are properly set-
up for your situation.
7. Check the current threshold read-
ing on the meter. The threshold
for home-leakage detection should
be set on 20 µV/m or the minimum
leakage level recommended by
your cable system.
8. Use the HD-1 to scan the cable
and hardware in the home.
9. Scan for leakage; hold your HD-1
antenna perpendicular to the
potential leakage source.
10. Monitor the peak leakage reading
on your display screen and listen
to the response of your meter
alarm in order to identify specific
leakage sources.
11. Identify any egress leakage
sources and repair them.
12 Always conduct a follow-up check
for egress in the area after you
have completed a repair.
