Cryogen Monitor User Interface
This section describes the user interface to the E5025
cryogen monitor hardware. This version of the Cryogen
Monitor user interface software requires VnmrJ 3.0 or later.
Modes of operation
The Cryogen monitor software can be run in “server”,
“writer”, or “reader” execution modes and can be started
either from within VnmrJ or as a stand- alone Java process
from a command shell.
Server execution mode
The “server” (or “master”) execution mode provides a direct
communication link to the monitor hardware (via a TCP
socket). The server process can either be run in the
background or with a graphical user interface. It is
responsible for periodically querying the Cryogen monitor
hardware for cryogen levels and writing the results to a
history file. This file can be used to construct plots and
other data presentation features used by all application
modes that support a user interface.
Nonserver execution modes
In nonserver modes, the user interface is chosen
automatically to be either “writer” or “reader” depending on
whether the current user has write access to files in the
/vnmr directory (for example, is logged on as vnmr1).
In the “writer” interface, controls can be used to set
preferences for features such as cryogen levels for
notification states and the maximum number of days to
retain history. The user interface also includes a button that
can be used to launch a “server” process in the background,
if one is not currently active.
