Using RS-232
2. Setting Up the RS-232 Interface
1. Press Utility > GPIB/RS-232 LAN> RS-232 Setup > RS-232 Baud Rate > 9600
Use baud rates 57600 or lower only. Select the signal generators baud rate to match the baud rate of
your computer or UNIX workstation or adjust the baud rate settings on your computer to match the baud
rate setting of the signal generator.
NOTE The default baud rate for VISA is 9600. This baud rate can be changed with the
“VI_ATTR_ASRL_BAUD” VISA attribute.
2. Press
Utility > GPIB/RS-232 LAN > RS-232 Setup > RS-232 Echo Off On until Off is highlighted.
Set the signal generators RS-232 echo. Selecting On echoes or returns characters sent to the signal
generator and prints them to the display.
3. Connect an RS-232 cable from the computers serial connector to the signal generator’s AUXILIARY
INTERFACE connector. Refer to Table 1-6 for RS-232 cable information.
NOTE Any 9 pin (male) to 9 pin (female) straight-through cable that directly wires pins 2, 3, 5, 7,
and 8 may be used.
