Technical Specifications

Overview

The Ferrex 1200W Circular Saw is a robust power tool designed for private domestic DIY use, specifically for cutting wood. It excels in both lengthways and crossways cutting, allowing for straight lines and bevel angles up to 45°. The saw is intended to be used while resting firmly on the workpiece, ensuring stability and precision during operation. This manual emphasizes the importance of reading all safety warnings and instructions thoroughly before use, especially for first-time users or inexperienced operators, to prevent serious personal injury. The product is not suitable for commercial or trade use.

Function Description

The circular saw is equipped with a 1200W motor, providing ample power for various wood cutting tasks. It features a base plate that can be adjusted for both bevel angle and cutting depth, offering versatility for different cutting requirements. The saw includes a lower guard that automatically retracts during a cut and covers the blade when the saw is not in use, enhancing user safety. For precise cuts, a parallel guide can be attached, allowing users to make cuts parallel to a workpiece edge at a chosen distance. Dust extraction is facilitated by an adapter that can be connected to a suitable vacuum hose, helping to keep the work area clean and reducing dust-related hazards. The saw incorporates a safety lock-off button to prevent accidental starting, requiring the user to depress it before engaging the on/off trigger.

Usage Features

  • Adjusting Bevel Angle: To adjust the bevel angle, the base plate bevel lock knob is loosened by turning it anti-clockwise. The machine can then be tilted away from the base plate to the desired angle, indicated by aligning a triangle symbol with the base plate angle scale. Once the angle is set, the lock knob is tightened clockwise. A crucial warning advises against using the depth of cut scale when making bevel cuts due to potential inaccuracy.
  • Adjusting Cutting Depth: The cutting depth is adjusted by loosening the cutting depth lock knob anti-clockwise and raising the saw body away from the base plate. The required depth is set by aligning a line symbol at the rear of the upper fixed guard with the cutting depth scale. The lock knob is then tightened clockwise. For optimal results, the blade teeth should not protrude more than 3mm beneath the workpiece. It is recommended to perform a trial cut before making the final cut on the workpiece.
  • Attaching the Parallel Guide: The parallel guide is attached by loosening its lock knob anti-clockwise, sliding the guide arm through the fixture to achieve the desired cutting distance, and then tightening the lock knob clockwise to secure it. This feature is particularly useful for achieving consistent, straight cuts parallel to an edge.
  • Hand Grip Position: The saw is designed for two-handed operation. Users should hold the saw firmly with both hands, one controlling the on/off trigger and the other on the front handle for support and pressure, ensuring better control and stability.
  • Safety Lock-Off Button: To start the saw, the lock-off button must be depressed first, followed by the on/off trigger. Releasing the on/off trigger will stop the saw. Users are reminded to wait until the blade comes to a complete stop before setting the machine down.
  • Making a Cut: Before cutting, the line of cut should be marked, and the depth and bevel angle adjusted. For 90° cuts, the line of cut is aligned with the outer blade guide notch on the base plate, while for 45° bevel cuts, the inner blade guide notch is used. The front edge of the base is rested on the workpiece, and the motor is started by depressing the lock-off button and squeezing the trigger. The blade should be allowed to reach full speed before cutting begins. The saw should be pushed forward slowly and steadily with both hands, avoiding excessive force to prevent rough cuts, kickback, and reduced blade life.
  • Making a Pocket Cut: For pocket cuts, the depth of cut and bevel angle (set to 0°) are adjusted. The lower blade guard lever is raised to expose the blade, and the front of the base is firmly rested against the workpiece with the rear handle raised so the blade does not touch the material. The motor is started, and once the blade reaches full speed, the saw is slowly lowered into the workpiece, using the front of the base as a hinge point. As soon as the blade starts cutting, the lower blade guard lever must be released. Once the base plate is flat, cutting proceeds in a forward direction.

Maintenance Features

  • Changing a Saw Blade: Before any maintenance, the saw must be disconnected from the mains power supply. Protective gloves should be worn when handling the saw blade due to the risk of injury. Only saw blades compatible with the machine and specified in the instructions should be used; grinding discs are strictly prohibited. To remove the blade, the spindle is fixed with the supplied wrench, and the blade bolt is loosened anti-clockwise with the hex key. The blade bolt, washer, and outer flange are then removed. The lower blade guard is tilted back and held with the lever to remove the old saw blade. For mounting a new blade, the process is reversed: the new blade is placed onto the inner flange, ensuring the cutting direction of the teeth matches the direction-of-rotation arrow on the blade guard. The outer flange, washer, and blade bolt are re-assembled, and the blade bolt is tightened clockwise with the hex key.
  • Carbon Brushes: The carbon brushes are a wearing component. If the saw sparks or stops due to worn brushes, they should be replaced by a service agent. Continuing to use the saw with worn brushes can cause permanent damage. Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same time.
  • General Maintenance: The saw requires no additional lubrication or user-serviceable parts. It should be cleaned with a dry cloth, avoiding water or chemical cleaners. The motor ventilation slots and all working controls should be kept clean and free of dust. The saw should be stored in a dry place. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons to avoid hazards.
  • Environmental Protection: Unwanted materials, including the tool, hoses, and packaging, should be recycled responsibly. They should be sorted and taken to a local recycling centre for environmentally safe disposal.
