IfstorageafterdeliveryofthePHEisknowninadvance,
informAlfaLavalwhenorderingthePHEtoensurethatit
willbeproperlypreparedforstoragebeforepacking.
Indoorstorage
•Storeinsidearoomwiththetemperaturebetween15
and20°C(60-70°F)andhumidityaround70%.For
outdoorstorageread“Outdoorstorage”onthispage.
•T opreventdamagetothegaskets,thereshouldnotbe
anyozone-producingequipmentintheroomsuchas
electricmotorsorweldingequipment.
•T opreventdamagetothegaskets,donotstoreorganic
solventsoracidsintheroomandavoiddirectsunlight,
intensiveheatradiationorultravioletradiation.
•Thetighteningboltsshouldbewellcoveredwithlight
greasecoating.
Outdoorstorage
IfthePHEhastobestoredoutdoors,alltheprecautions
mentionedinthesection“Indoorstorage”onthispage
shouldbetaken.Also,protectionagainstclimateisvery
important.
ThestoredPHEshallbevisuallycheckedeverythird
month.Thecheckincludes:
•Greasingofthetighteningbolts
•Metalportcovers
•Protectionoftheplatepackandgaskets
Takenoutofservice
If,foranyreason,thePHEisshutdownandtakenoutof
serviceforalongperiodoftime,followthesameadvice
asintheprevioussection”Indoorstorage”onthispage.
Althoughbeforestoragefollowingactionshastobedone.
•Checkthemeasurementoftheplatepack(measure
betweenframeandpressureplate,Adimension).
•DrainbothmediasidesofthePHE
•Dependingonthemedia,thePHEshouldberinsed
andthendried.
•Theconnectionshouldbecoveredifthepipingsystem
isnotconnected.Useaplasticorplywoodcoverfor
theconnection.
•Covertheplatepackwithnon-transparentplasticlm.
Installationafterlong-termstorage
IncaseswhenthePHEhasbeentakenoutofservicefor
anextensiveperiodoftime,i.e.longerthanoneyear,the
riskofleakagewhenstartingupincreases.Toavoidthis
problemitisrecommendedtoletthegasketrubberrestand
regainmostofitselasticity.

toavoidsuddenshockstothePHE.Itisrecommended
totestuptotheDesignPressure,refertoPHEdrawing.
Environmentalcompliance
AlfaLavalendeavourstoperformitsownoperations
ascleanlyandefcientlyaspossible,andtotake
environmentalaspectsintoconsiderationwhendeveloping,
designing,manufacturing,servicingandmarketingits
products.
Unpacking
Packingmaterialconsistsofwood,plastics,cardboard
boxesand,insomecases,metalstraps.
•Woodandcardboardboxescanbereused,recycledor
usedforenergyrecovery.
•Plasticsshouldberecycledorburntatalicensedwaste
incinerationplant.
•Metalstrapsshouldbesentformaterialrecycling.
Maintenance
•Allmetalpartsshouldbesentformaterialrecycling.
•Oilandallnon-metalwearpartsmustbetakencareof
inagreementwithlocalregulations.
Scrapping
Atendofuse,theequipmentshallberecycledaccording
torelevant,localregulations.Besidestheequipmentitself,
anyhazardousresiduesfromtheprocessliquidmustbe
consideredanddealtwithinapropermanner.Whenin
doubt,orinabsenceoflocalregulations,pleasecontactthe
localAlfaLavalsalescompany.
