If the quick release lever cannot be fully pressed parallel to the
fork, return the lever to the OPEN position. Then turn the tension
adjusting nut counterclockwise by a quarter of a turn and try
again to close the lever.
Connect the brake, then turn the wheel to make sure that it is
properly centred and that the rim does not touch the brake pads.
After that, engage the brake and make sure that it is functioning
correctly.
C. Rear wheel removal
1. Shift the rear derailleur to the highest gear positionthe
chain should be located on the smallest sprocket.
2. If your bicycle uses V-brakes, disconnect them so that the
tyre can pass between the brake pads. For more details, see
chapter 5, section C (fig. 1215).
3. Move the rear derailleur body back with your right hand.
4. Install the quick release lever in the OPEN position (fig.
8b).
5. Raise the rear end of the bicycle 1015 cm off the ground
and, holding the derailleur back, push the wheel down and
forward, so that it’s clear of the frame dropouts.
D. Rear wheel installation
ATTENTION: If your bicycle is equipped with disc
brakes, use caution not to damage the disc, brake pads, or
the calliper while reinstalling the wheel. Never press the disc
brake lever, unless the disc is properly inserted into the
calliper.
1. Move the rear derailleur to the farthest position from the
wheel centre.
2. Move the derailleur body back with your right hand.
3. Put the quick release lever in the OPEN position (fig. 8b). The
lever should be located on the opposite side from the cogset and
shifting sequence.
4. Install the chain on the smallest cogset sprocket, then insert
the wheel into the frame dropouts and make sure that it is
properly seated. The derailleur can then be released.
5. Install the tension adjusting nut with your left hand, so that the
clearance between the frame and the nut on the one end, and
the clearance between the frame and the lever on the other end
is about 12 mm. Then turn the quick release lever to the
CLOSED position and press it parallel to the frame stays.
Significant force is required to clamp the wheel securely, and to
achieve this you will need to clasp your fingers around the frame
stays. The lever should clearly imprint itself on your palm.
WARNING: Apply pressure to securely lock the wheel
in place. If you can fully close” the quick release lever
without clasping your fingers around the frame stays to
increase the tightening force, and the lever does not clearly
imprint itself on your palm, the tightening force is insufficient.
Openthe lever, turn the tension tightening nut clockwise
by a quarter of a turn and try again.
If the quick release lever cannot be fully pressed parallel to the
stays, return the lever to the OPEN position. Then turn the
tension adjusting nut counterclockwise by a quarter of a turn and
try again to close the lever.
Connect the brake, then turn the wheel to make sure that it is
properly centred and that the rim does not touch the brake pads.
After that, engage the brake and make sure that it is functioning
correctly.
