has unidirectional tyres, ensure that they are mounted to rotate in
the direction shown by the arrow.
2.VALVE TYPES
There are two main valve types used in bicycle tubes: so-called car
valve (Schrader) and bicycle valve (Presta). The bicycle pump you
use should have a tip appropriate for the valve installed in your
bicycle.
A car valve (Schrader), as you can see from
its name, is similar to a valve used in car
tubes. To inflate the tube with the Schrader
valve, just unscrew the cap and put the
chuck onto the valve stem. To deflate the
tube, press the needle in the middle of the
stem with a key or other suitable object.
A bicycle valve has a smaller diameter
and used only for bicycle tubes. To
inflate a tube with a Presta valve, take
off the cap, unscrew the retainer nut of
the shut-off nipple and press the nipple
from above to free it. You can then put
the chuck onto the valve and start
pumping. To inflate a tube with a
Presta valve by means of a car pump, use a special adapter. To
deflate the tube, press the nipple, having unscrewed the retainer
nut, and hold it adpressed.
CHAPTER 6. AFTER-SALES SERVICE
WARNING: Technological progress and rapid development of
the bicycle industry have led to bicycles and even separate
components of bicycles becoming highly complex mechanisms.
Moreover, the construction of one or another part is changed
differently every year. It’s impossible to describe all the repair and
maintenance procedures of separate units and components of your
bicycle in this manual. Therefore, to ensure the maximum safety of
the bicycle it’s very important to entrust all repairs and maintenance
not described in the manual to qualified bicycle mechanics. It’s also
essential that the maintenance program corresponds with your
riding style and the geographic conditions you ride under. Sellers in
your bicycle shop will help to establish the optimal maintenance and
repair program for your bicycle.
WARNING: Many maintenance and repair works on your
bicycle require specialist knowledge and tools. Never change any
settings and never start any works on your bicycle if you are not
completely sure that you can successfully finish them. Wrong
settings or incorrectly performed repair can damage the bicycle and
lead to a fall, which can lead to injury.
А) MAINTENANCE INTERVALS
The following works can and should be done by the owner,
because they don’t require any specialist skills or tools, other than
those described in this manual. All other maintenance and repair
work should be performed in a properly equipped service centre
by a qualified bicycle mechanic with use of tools and according to
the programme defined by the manufacturer.
