Control is unstable / Oscillates
Flow may be too low for stable control. The following solutions
can help prevent instability:
1. Achieve higher flow above the minimum nominal
controllable flow (see Technical Data in Emech
®
valve IOM)
2. Lower Gains Multiplier until control stabilizes
3. If appropriate, replace valve with a smaller valve that can
achieve stable control at a lower flow
Selected Gains Multiplier may be too high for application. Reset
the Gains Multiplier to the Default setting.
Does the outlet flow from the Emech
®
valve meet or exceed the flow specified in
the product manual for minimum stable
temperature control?
Is the Gains Multiplier set to higher than
normal values? (Default is 100%)
NO
NO
Is there a large imbalance between supply
pressures?
NO
Pressure imbalance may be contributing to instability, or a
mechanical device such as a sticky or broken check valve.
Decrease the Gains Multiplier until control is more stable, or add
pressure regulation to limit the imbalance between supplies. In
the case of Steam and Water mixing, it is advisable to have the
steam pressure a nominal 10% higher than the water pressure.

Actuator does not respond as expected to ANALOG current loop signal
Enter the Settings Menu (Section 5.0) and change the Control
Source to Analog.
Set calibration to factory, or re-do calibration steps. Refer to
Section 5.0 of this IOM.
Is the actuator set to receive an analog signal?
(Indicated by ‘AIN’ on display).
Is the analog input correctly calibrated when
set to custom calibration, or is set to factory
calibration?
NO
NO
Is the loop signal wiring connected to the
correct terminals on the actuator terminal
block and with the correct polarity?
NO
Connect signal wiring to the correct terminals. See Section 3.0
in this IOM.
YES
Is the remote signal a powered loop signal in
the range of 4-20mA?
NO
The signal source may be outside of the actuator’s expected
signal range. Ensure the mA loop current is not over 50mA or
voltage over 9Vdc. Check with a loop calibrator that the signal is
within the specified range.
