Backup
Disk
The
system
disk
contains
the
programs
that
the
ST
Computer
needs
to
operate.
You
must
use
this disk to
start
the ST
Computer.
You
make a
System
Backup
disk by
copying
the
TOS
System
disk
that
came
with
your ST
Computer
System.
TOS The
ST
Operating
System.
TOS
controls
how
the
computer
operates the
GEM
Desktop,
the
mouse,
and any
peripheral
devices
you
connect
to
the
computer.
Track
One
of the
circular paths
on a
disk
that
contains
the
data
that is
written
on
the disk.
Each
track
is made up
of
smaller
sections
called sectors.
Trash The
GEM
Desktop
icon used to
delete
files or
folders
from
the
Desktop.
Once a
file
or
folder is put
in
the Trash
icon, it is
per-
manently
deleted.
VT52
(Terminal)
Emulator.
A
communications
program
that you
can
use to
send
data
over
telephone
lines
or
directly to
another
computer.
Window
The
work
area that
the ST
Computer uses
to
display
files
or folders,
or
to
run
programs.
You
can
have
four
windows
open at
any time.
Write-Protect
To
mechanically
prevent
a
disk
from
being
written
to. To
write-protect
a
disk,
move
the
write-protect
tab so you
can
see
through the
Write-Protect
Notch,
or so
the tab
is at
the
bottom
position
in the
notch.
