Configuring a Static IP Route
Overview
A static IP route is a description of a path to an IP subnet whose
network address is not known to the FRITZ!Box.
Application Scenario
Static IP routes are intended for the following situation:
In the FRITZ!Box network there is a subnet whose network
address in the FRITZ!Box is unknown.
The network devices in the subnet are to communicate with the
network devices of the FRITZ!Box or access the internet via the
FRITZ!Box.
Only relevant for IPv4: The router that spans the subnet does not
do NAT (Network Address Translation).
How Static IP Routes Work
IP packets whose IP destination addresses are unknown are
forwarded to the internet by default. In the application described
above, because the FRITZ!Box does not know the destination
addresses that belong to the subnet, it forwards the packet to the
internet. To prevent this from happening, the FRITZ!Box must know the
network address of the subnet and the IP address of the interface to
the subnet. These two addresses are required to configure a static
route. Static IP routes are registered in the routing table.
Requirements
Static IP routes can be configured only when the advanced view is
enabled; see Using the Standard View and Advanced View, page
61.
Instructions: Configuring a Static IPv4 Route
1. Open the user interface, see page 54.
