Overview

The IM24V interface module is a system component designed for integration into machines or systems, particularly for the Tightening System 350. It serves as a crucial link for controlling a tightening system via a 24 V interface and for outputting 24 V status signals from the tightening system. Actuators and initiators can also be connected to this interface. Multiple IM24V modules can be utilized within a single tightening system, with their specific functions selected through the operating program. A key feature of the IM24V is its ability to completely galvanically isolate the inputs and outputs, which requires an external power pack (not included in the delivery contents).

Function Description:

The IM24V interface module provides 10 inputs and 13 outputs. These outputs are designed to be short-circuit-proof and protected against reverse polarity, ensuring robust and reliable operation. The module allows for flexible power supply options for its outputs: either an internal power supply or an external power supply. This selection is made via a jumper on the circuit board. When "Internal" is selected, the total current for the outputs must not exceed 1 A. If "External" is selected, the external power supply, connected at the X1S1 or XDD1 interface, can provide a total current of up to 3 A, which is protected by a UL fuse. The logical assignment of the internal tightening system signals to the respective inputs/outputs is configured using the BS350 operating system.

Interfaces:

  • X1S1 interface: A two-pin spring-type terminal for connecting an external 24 V power supply.
    • Pin 1: 24 V external supply voltage (24 V, 3 A).
    • Pin 2: 0V Reference potential for external 24 V.
  • XDD1 interface: A 25-pin SUB-D plug connector for digital inputs/outputs.
    • Inputs (24 V): I1, I2, I3, I4, I5, I6, I7, I8, I9, I10.
    • Outputs (24 V/500 mA): O1, O2, O3, O4, O5, O6, O7, O8, O9, O10, O11, O12, O13.
    • Reference potential: 0V.

Fuse:

The maximum permissible current is limited to 3.15 A via a UL fuse when an external power supply is used. Compatible microfuse types include:

  • TR 5, no. 372; 3.15 A delayed; spacing 5.08 mm, pin length 4.3 mm (Supplier: Wickmann).
  • MSTU 250, 3.15 A delayed; spacing 5.08 mm, pin length 4.3 mm (Supplier: Schurter).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The IM24V interface module is inserted into an appropriate slot on the system component (e.g., B1 or B2 on the CS351 Compact System) until it catches, and then the front knurled bolts are tightened. It is crucial to switch off the power supply to the relevant system component before assembly to prevent injuries and damage. Measures to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD protection) must be undertaken during all assembly work.
  • Commissioning: Before commissioning, all plug-in connections must be correctly seated, and the power supply for the system components must be switched on. The product should acclimate itself for several hours before commissioning to prevent water condensation in the housing.
  • Operation: The module operates without requiring user intervention once commissioned.
  • Extension and conversion: To switch to an external power supply, the IM24V must be disassembled, the jumper plugged into the "External" position (refer to page 22 in the manual), and then reassembled.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning and care: The IM24V interface module is maintenance-free under intended use. For cleaning, only a slightly damp, lint-free cloth with water and, if necessary, a mild detergent should be used. Solvents or aggressive detergents must never be used. All openings should be covered with protective equipment to prevent detergents from penetrating the system. Absolute cleanliness is essential when working on the module to ensure its safe function.
  • Disassembly and replacement: Before removing the IM24V interface module, ensure that the relevant system components are not under voltage to prevent damage. Loosen the front knurled bolts and pull out the module. A dummy panel should be assembled if necessary.
  • Troubleshooting: Malfunctions and error information are displayed in the tightening system (e.g., BS350). The IM24V monitors its 24 V outputs for overloading and short circuits, the state of the fuses for an external power supply, and the 24 V supply. For unresolved defects, contact Bosch Rexroth service.
  • Disposal: The product must be disposed of in accordance with applicable national regulations. Bosch Rexroth also offers disposal services.

The IM24V interface module is manufactured according to accepted technological rules, but users must adhere to general safety instructions and warnings to prevent personal injury or equipment damage. This includes reading the entire manual, especially the "General safety instructions" chapter, before working with the module. Only qualified technical personnel or instructed persons under supervision should perform assembly, commissioning, operation, disassembly, and service activities. The voltage circuits on the terminal are safely isolated from the mains circuits (in accordance with EN50178), but requirements for safe isolation of electric circuits must be observed when using the connection options on this terminal.
