4 Changing the brake lining

[34] Use a spanner to tighten the axle nut whilst at
the same time turning the wheel hub, until the
axle nut torque limiter operates (do not use an
impact driver).
[35] Fit the retaining key in the groove between the
axle stub and the nut (do not reset the axle nut).
[36] For production date April 2000 onwards, insert
the hooked spring ring behind the edge of the
axle nut or, up to March 2000, into the thread
on the axle stub.
[37] Smear the threads of the hub cap all round with
BPW special longlife grease ECOLi
Plus
.
[38] Screw hub cap onto the wheel hub and tighten
to the tightening torque of 800 Nm.
 Adjust brake.
Adjust slack adjuster using adjusting
hexagon to a play of 10 - 12 % of the
connected brake lever length. The automatic
slack adjuster ECO-Master adjusts itself on
actuation of the brake lever. Initial free play
of the ECO-Master should be set manually.
 Important!
New brake linings only have maximum
effect after a few braking actions.
[34] Serrer l'écrou de fusée tout en tournant le
moyeu de roue à l'aide d'une clé Allen, jusqu'à
ce que la denture de l'écrou de fusée saute (ne
pas utiliser de visseuse à percussion).
[35] Mettre la goupille dentée dans la fente (ne pas
redesserrer l’écrou de fusée).
[36] Accrocher les circlips fabriqués à partir
d’avril 2000 derrière le bord rabattu de l’écrou
d’essieu, ou dans le filetage de la fusée d’essieu
pour les circlips fabriqués jusqu’en mars 2000.
[37] Enduire tout le pourtour du filet du capuchon de
moyeu de graisse spéciale longue durée BPW
ECOLi
Plus
.
[38] Visser le capuchon sur le moyeu et serrer au
couple de serrage prescrit 800 Nm.
 Régler le frein.
Régler le levier de frein avec l'hexagone de
réajustage sur un jeu de 10 à 12 % de la
longueur du levier de frein. Le levier de
frein automatique ECO-Master se règle
lorsque le levier de frein est actionné.
 Attention !
Les garnitures de frein neufs n’offrent un
freinage optimal qu’après plusieurs freinages.
