Tuning the System: Adjusting to
optimize power supply
performance according to
resonance frequency, especially
with regard to the horn and
converter.
Ultrasonic Welding: The use of
ultrasonic vibrations to generate
heat and subsequently melt the
mating surfaces of two
thermoplastic parts. When
ultrasonic vibrations stop, the
molten material solidifies, and a
weld occurs.
Ultrasound: Vibration above the
typical upper limit of the range of
human hearing (18 kilohertz).
Velocity (Horn): The rate of
motion of the horn face.
Weld Cycle: The total process of
welding a part, including Hold
Time, allowing the part to cool
and solidify, optional Afterburst
Delay, and optional Afterburst
Duration, during which time
additional ultrasonic energy
ensures that a part shakes off the
horn if the part is adhering.
Weld Time: The time ultrasonic
energy is applied to the part.
