Cospas-Sarsat cooperates with the International Civil Aviation
Organization (ICAO), International Maritime Organization
(IMO), International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and
other international organizations to ensure that Cospas-Sarsat
distress alert services are compatible with the international
community’s needs, standards, and recommendations.
3.2 406 MHz Frequency
The Emergency transmitter watch broadcasts a digital
signal on the 406 MHz frequency, lasting 0.44 second every
50 seconds. The signal consists of a hexadecimal code,
which, among other data, includes the code for the country
in which the beacon was registered and the beacon’s serial
number.

3.3 121.5 MHz Frequency
The Emergency transmitter watch broadcasts a second analog
signal with amplitude modulation on the 121.5 MHz frequency,
lasting 0.75 second every 2.25 seconds.
