The exact positioning of the beacon with its two antennas
extended plays a decisive role in achieving optimal transmis
-
sion conditions.
The two antenna sections must be kept vertical, with the
short section IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES pointing upwards and
the long section pointing downwards at a sufficient height
to avoid the antenna touching ground (the far end of the
long section must be 5-10 cm/2-4 in. off the ground).
The Emergency is not designed to be worn on the wrist
when the beacon is activated.
Among many other options, here are some examples of non-
conductive supports which can be used for the beacon:
– Fixed on a wooden stick or a rock.
– Placed on a rucksack or a box.
– Suspended using a shoelace or a belt.
In case of strong wind, find a sheltered area or fix the long
section of the antenna to the non-conductive support so as
to prevent it from bending.
Any bending of the short antenna due to strong wind does
not affect transmission conditions.
