FORCE UNITS The FORCE UNITS parameter must be set before setting the FORCE
APPLICATION parameter.
The FORCE UNITS are pounds (lbs) or Newtons (N). Use the SELECT
MODE button to select a specific FORCE UNIT.
Use the INCREASE or DECREASE button to adjust the FORCE UNIT
pressure. The amount of pressure will be displayed on the LCD screen.
Central Force: The front panel will display the TOTAL force on the specimen holder. The
Central FORCE UNIT range is 4 to 60 pounds selected in 4-pound
increments and 20 to 300 Newtons, selected in 20-Newton increments.
Single Force: The front panel will display the force on the individual specimens. The Single
FORCE UNIT range is 0 to 15 pounds per specimen, selected in 1-pound
increments and 0 to 75 Newton’s per specimen, selected in 5-Newton
increments.
Once a FORCE UNIT value is selected it cannot be changed until the machine is powered
off.
COMP/CONTRA COMP/CONTRA selects the rotation direction of the specimen holder and
the platen. For most applications COMP or CONTRA rotation will yield the
optimum combination of fast, high quality specimen preparation.
COMP Both the specimen holder and the platen will rotate in the same direction.
COMP is indicated by flashing lights moving in the same direction on the
control panel’s LCD screen.
CONTRA The specimen holder and the platen will rotate in opposite directions.
CONTRA is usually selected when high amounts of material need to be
removed from the specimens to make them uniformly plane. CONTRA is
indicated by flashing lights moving in opposite directions on the control
panel’s LCD screen.
