1-2 Supplemental Restraint System 23
Driver and Front Passenger Air Bags
If the vehicle is equipped with a driver air bag and a front passenger air bag,
when the SRS ECU suffers a medium to severe frontal collision while the
vehicle is traveling and the SRS triggering conditions are met, the air bags will
deploy to assist in protecting the driver's and the front passenger's heads and
chests to reduce the degree of injury.
Starting process of front air bags
■ In case of a medium to severe frontal collision accident, upon sensing that
the vehicle decelerates rapidly, the sensor will send signals to the
controller to enable the front air bags to deploy immediately.
■ In case of a frontal collision, the seat belt can assist in securing your lower
body and trunk to keep you still in place. The air bag functions as an air
cushion that assists in securing and protecting your head and chest.
■ When the intensity of impact does not reach the critical value for air bags
to deploy, the seat belts provide the main protection.
