Chapter 2
Cylinder and Components
60 SAFETY FIRST Edition 1December 2019
MSA G1 Electronic Breathing Apparatus
Design
The facemask has a polycarbonate wide view visor and soft rubber seal, designed to
provide a comfortable fit to the wearer’s face. This seal is self-sealing under positive
pressure. A correct seal does not require excessive tightening of the head harness
tabs.
The facemask features an open port design with cross-contamination protection with
low breathing resistance on and off air. The facemask is equipped with a mechanical
speech diaphragm to enhance speech clarity when the voice projection speaker is not
in use or when wearing the BA mask off air. Open areas within the protection cover
improve speech volume and direction on the fireground.
The facemask provides breathable air from the demand valve through an inhalation
valve to the inside of the visor and then through the one-way check valves into the
nose cup. Exhaled air is directed out of the exhalation valve by the nose cup directly to
ambient air.
