FRONT AXLE AND FRONT AXLE
BRACKET
Parts which can be inspected during this operation:
• Spindle
• Center Pivot
• Final Drive at Wheel
• Differential Gears
Removal
Remove front wheel drive shaft (4wd only).
Support front bracket or front bumper securely with a
crane or stands.
FIG. 8: Support front axle with a jack.
Remove both right-hand and left-hand tie rod.
Support the steering cylinder to the front frame with a tie
strap or rope.
Remove pivot casting bolts.
Move front axle assembly forward.
Installation
Install front axle housing.
Install front pivot casting and steering cylinder. Steering
cylinder bolt has fine threads, pivot bolt has coarse
threads. Use loctite on pivot casting bolts.
NOTE: Apply grease to the bushing and fill the oil seal
with grease ahead of time. Install the oil seal
carefully to keep lips from turning over.
Install both right and left tie-rods.
Adjust axle end play as outlined in front axle chapter.
