User Operation Manual

Optional pyranometer global radiation sensor
The photometer is ready to receive an optional external pyranometer for global
radiation (RG) measurements. Please refer to the Pyranometer manufacturer for the
field installation. Take care to not install the Pyranometer in the Photometer field of
view.
Compatible global radiation sensor must be with a tension proportional to the global
radiation. The sensor must have two wire outputs with this tension proportional to
radiation. Best results are obtained with pyranometer exhibiting a sensibility between
5 µV/W/m² and 50 µV/W/m². Low sensibility decrease resolution and too high
sensibility may lead to overflow.
On the photometer parameters, you have to enable the RG (RgEnable/RGEN) and to
input the RG sensor calibration sensibility (RgSensibility/RGSENS) in µV/W/m². This
sensibility should be present on the calibration sheet provided by the manufacturer.
When the global radiation sensor is enabled (RgEnable), two new data will be added
in K8 files at the end of each scenario (but moon). The first data is RG: the mean Global
Radiation in W/m². The second data is RGDEV: the standard deviation of the RG. RG
and RGDEV are averaged during the scenario run with a sample every 5 seconds.
The sensor must be plugged on the RG marked plug and earth plug of the C.U.
The RG RJ9 pinout is:
1. Sensor Out+ or Hi on pin 1 and pin 4 of RJ (red and green dot)
2. Sensor Out- or Low on pin 2 of RJ (yellow dot)
3. Sensor shield on the separate C.U. ground pin.
4. Pin 3 (white dot) is left unconnected.
