Accessory Use

Choosing Car Seat Mode

Rear-Facing Mode Requirements

5-40 lb (2.3-18 kg) and 19-40 in. (48-101.6 cm). Children under 1 year must ride Rear-Facing.

Forward-Facing Mode Requirements

22-50 lb (10.1-22.6 kg) and 29-43 in. (73.6-110 cm). Children must be at least 1 year old.

Preparing Car Seat for Child Fit

Rear-Facing Child Fit Guidelines

Head Position

The top of your child's head must be at least 1 in. (2.5 cm) below the top of the car seat.

Harness Strap Position

The harness strap must be at or slightly below your child's shoulders; never above.

Buckle Position

The buckle must be used in either the 1st or 2nd buckle slot. Choose the slot closest to your child.

Forward-Facing Child Fit Guidelines

Head Position

The tops of your child's ears must be below the top of the car seat.

Harness Strap Position

The harness strap must be at or slightly above your child's shoulders; never below.

Max Seated Shoulder Height

The maximum seated shoulder height is 17 in. (43 cm). Measure from floor to top of shoulder.

Buckle Position

The buckle can be used in any buckle slot. Choose the slot closest to your child.

LATCH: Lower Anchor Use

Vehicle Belts

Types of Retractors

Switchable Retractor

This retractor can be switched to a locking mode. Slowly pull the shoulder belt all the way out, then let it go back in 1-2 in.

Automatic Locking Retractor

This retractor always locks. It will automatically lock after slowly pulling the seat belt out at least halfway.

Emergency Locking Retractor

These retractors only lock during a sudden stop or collision. Determine if seat belt's latch plate can lock the belt.

Check Latch Plates

Locking Latch Plate

Sliding latch plates easily slip between belt portions. If you have one, use a locking clip.

Prohibited Retractors and Belts

Never use with Emergency Locking Retractor Lap Only Belt or Inflatable Seat Belts.

Replacement After a Minor Crash

NHTSA states criteria for minor crash. If criteria not met, replace immediately.

Replacement After Moderate/Severe Crash

Must replace if car seat has been in a moderate to severe car crash. Damage not always visible.

Expiration

Do not use this car seat more than 8 years after the date of manufacture.

Never place child rear-facing with active frontal airbag. Use only on seats facing forward.

General Installation Safety

Check vehicle belt/lower anchor belt before use. Secure seat even when not in use.

Troubleshooting

Buckle or Harness Release Lever Issues

Check for debris, clean with water. Do not lubricate. Do not use if harness won't adjust.

Harness Twisting

Straighten harness each time. Lock buckle and tighten harness to prevent twisting.
