Thistractoris equippedwitha safetyinterlocksystemforthe protection
ofthe operator.Iftheinterlocksystemshouldevermalfunction,do not
operatethetractor.Contacta Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer.
• Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromcrankingor
startingunlesstheparkingbrakeisengaged,andthePTO(Blade
Engage)knobisin thedisengaged(OFF)position.
Theenginewillautomaticallyshutoffif theoperatorleavesthe
seatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.
• TheelectricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwill automaticallyshut
off ifthe operatorleavesthe tractor'sseatwiththe PTO(Blade
Engage)knobinthe engaged(ON)position,regardlessof
whetherthe parkingbrakeisengaged.
• Withthe ignitionkeyinthe NORMALMOWINGposition,the
electricPTO(BladeEngage)clutchwillautomaticallyshutoffif
thePTO(BladeEngage)knobis movedintotheengaged(ON)
positionwiththedrive pedalinpositionfor reversetravel.
Donotoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemis malfunctioning.
Thissystemwasdesignedfor your safetyandprotection.
StartingtheEngine
NOTE:Referto theAssembly& Set-Upsectionofthismanualfor
GasolineandOilfill-upinstructions.
1. Insertthe tractorkeyintothe ignitionswitchmodule.
2. Placethe PTO(BladeEngage)knobinthe disengaged(OFF)
position.
3. Engagethe tractor'sparkingbrake.
4. Activatethe chokecontrolbymovingthe throttle/chokecontrolall
thewayforwardintothechokeposition.
5. Turnthe ignitionkeyclockwisetothe STARTposition.After
theenginestarts,releasethe key.Itwill returntothe NORMAL
MOWINGposition.
DoNOTholdthekeyinthe STARTpositionfor longerthan ten
secondsata time.Doingso maycausedamagetoyourengine's
electricstarter.
6. Afterthe enginestarts,deactivatethechokecontrol.
NOTE:Do NOTleavethe chokecontrolon whileoperatingthetractor.
Doingsowill resultina "rich"fuel mixtureandcausethe engineto run
poorly.
STOPPING THE ENGINE
Ifyou strikea foreignobject,stoptheengineanddisconnectthe
sparkplugwire(s). Thoroughlyinspectthe machineforanydamage.
Repairthedamagebeforerestartingandoperating.
1. Ifthebladesare engaged,placethe PTO/BladeEngageknobin
thedisengaged(OFF)position.
2. PlacethethrottlecontrolneartheSLOWposition.
3. Turnthe ignitionkeycounterclockwiseto the STOPposition.
4. Removethe keyfromtheignitionswitchtopreventunintended
starting.
DRIVING THE TRACTOR
Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.
1. Lightlypressthe brakepedalto releasetheparkingbrake.Move
thethrottleleverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.
2. TotravelFORWARD,slowlypresstheupperportionof thedrive
pedalforwarduntilthe desiredspeedisachieved.SeeFigure7.

3. Totravelin REVERSE,checkthattheareabehindisclear,then
slowlydepressthereversepedalwiththe ballof yourfoot(NOT
yourheel)untilthedesiredspeedisachieved.SeeFigure7.
DoNOTattempttochangethe directionof travelwhenthetractoris
in motion.Alwaysbringthetractortoa completestopbeforemoving
thetractorfromforwardto reverseorviceversa.
Donotleavethe seatofthe tractorwithoutfirst placingthePTO
(BladeEngageknob)in the disengaged(OFF)positionandengaging
theparkingbrake.Ifleavingthetractorunattended,alsoturn the
engineoff andremovethe ignitionkey.
