Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiatocause
cancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.
Whenattachingbatterycables,alwaysconnectthe POSiTiVE(Red)
wireto its terminalfirst,followedbythe NEGATIVE(Black)wire.
Toconnectthebatterycables,proceedasfollows:
NOTE:Thepositivebatteryterminalis markedPositive(+).The
negativebatteryterminalis markedNegative(-).
1. Removetheplasticcover,if present,fromthepositive(+)battery
terminalandattachthe redcable to thepositive(+)battery
terminalwiththe bolt andhex nut.SeeFigure3.

terminalandattachthe blackcabletothe negative(-) battery
terminalwiththe bolt andhex nut.SeeFigure3.
3. Positionthe redrubberbootoverthepositivebatteryterminalto
helpprotectit fromcorrosion.
NOTE:Ifthebatteryis put intoserviceafterthe dateshownontop/
sided battery,chargethe batteryasinstructedintheServiceand
Maintenancesectionofthis Operator'sManualpriorto operatingthe
tractor.
Donotoverinflatetires.Checksidewallof tiresfor maximumpsi.
Equaltire pressureshouldbe maintainedatall times.
Thetiresonyourtractormaybeoverinflatedfor shippingpurposes.
Reducethe tire pressurebeforeoperatingthetractor.Checksidewall
oftiresformaximumpsi.
Setting the Deck Gauge Wheels
Movethe tractoron afirmand levelsurface,preferablypavement,and
proceedas follows
1. Selectthe heightpositionofthecuttingdeckbyplacingthedeck
liftleverin the normallydesiredmowingheightsetting(anyofthe
sixdifferentcuttingheightnotchesontherightfender).
2. Checkthegaugewheelsfor contactor excessiveclearancewith
thesurfacebelow.Thedeckgaugewheelsshouldhavebetween
1A"and1/2"clearanceabovethe groundasfollows:
Ifthe gaugewheelshaveexcessiveclearanceor contactwiththe
surface,adjustas follows:

a. Raisethedecklift handleto its highestsetting.
b. Removethe frontandreargaugewheelsbyremovingthe
locknutsandshoulderscrewswhichsecurethemto the
deck.SeeFigure4.
c. Placethedecklift leverinthedesiredmowingheightsetting.
d. Reinsertthe shoulderscrew(witheachgaugewheel)into
theindexholethatleavesapproximately_/2-inchbetweenthe
bottomofthe wheelandthepavement.
