1. Removethe air filtercover.
2. Toremove the air filter,liftthe end of the filter.See Figure27.

3. Removethe pre-cleanerfromthefilter.
4. Toloosendebris,gentlytap the filterona hardsurface.Ifthe filter
isexcessivelydirty,replacewitha newfilter.
5. Washthe pre-cleanerin liquiddetergentandwater.Allowit to
thoroughlyairdry.Donot oil thepre-cleaner.
6. Assemblethe dry pre-cleanerto thefilter.
7. Installthefilterintotheenginebaseandpushdownuntilthe filter
snapsin place.
8. Installthecover.
Spark Plug
1. Cleanareaaroundthe sparkplugbase.Donotsandblastspark
plug.Sparkplugshouldbecleanedbyscrapingor wirebrushing
andwashingwitha commercialsolvent
2. Removeandinspectthesparkplug.Checkgaptomakesureitis
setat .030".SeeFigure28.

Fuel Filter
Gasolineandits vaporsareextremelyflammableand explosive.Fire
or explosioncancausesevereburnsordeath.
• Keepgasolineawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,
andother ignitionsources.
• Checkfuellines,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracks
or leaks.Replaceif necessary.Seea Searsor otherqualified
servicedealerto replacefuelline.
• Beforereplacingthe fuelfilter,drainthe fuel tankor closethefuel
shut-offvalve.
• Replacementpartsmust bethesameandinstalledinthe same
positionasthe originalparts.
• Iffuelspills,waituntilit evaporatesbeforestartingengine.
ToDrainthe Fuel:
1. Locatethe fuel filter,whichis routedonthe left sideofthe engine
betweenthefueltankandthe carburetor,andmaybe attachedto
theenginewitha tiestrap.
2. Cutthetie strap,if present,thenpinchthein-lineclamponthe
fuelfilterwitha pairof pliers.
3. Slidetheclampup thefuel line.
4. Removethe in-linefuellineanddrainthefuelinto anapproved
container.
ToReplacethe Fuel Filter:
1. Beforereplacingthe fuelfilter,drainthe fueltankor closethefuel
shut-offvalve.Otherwise,fuelcan leakoutandcausea fireor
explosion.
